Andersonville

Andersonville is located on the North Side of Chicago and is home to modern two- and three-flats and large complexes with galleries and museums including the Neo-Futurariam and Chicago Filmmakers art house cinema. The infamous Ann Sather restaurant is found here which has come to be known as a uniquely mosaic-type neighborhood. It offers residents a suburban lifestyle with tree-lined streets and clean architecture.

Andersonville’s main advantage is its rich housing stock and remarkable proximity to downtown Chicago and the Lakefront. It is Chicago’s model of a thriving urban neighborhood with an economy comprised mostly of independent and locally owned businesses. Scandinavian-centric businesses populate the area owing to its history of having the largest population of Swedish immigrants. Swedish gift shops, restaurants, houses and even the Swedish American Museum stands witness to this neighborhood’s past. Because of its rich history and the breaking of a distinct identity, the neighborhood is now a melting pot of cultural diversity. Clark Street’s shopping district is visited by a lot of bargain hunters in the summer months. The most popular event in this neighborhood is the Midsommarfest which could be traced way back to 1965.  Every year, residents and visitors enjoy a wide array of international cuisine, family activities, lively entertainment and art shows. Going to and from the neighborhood is no problem because of transportation lines like the Red Line “L”, the wonderfully convenient Clark bus, and the Ravenswood Metra, which reaches downtown and the suburbs.
